I suspect a lot of Mel’s recent movie roles were to help him finance projects like “The Resurrection of the Christ.” I’d imagine not a lot of people wanted to contribute to it (just like the first movie), so he’s taking a page from Orson Welles’ book and raising money himself anywhere he can.

I suspect you are right. I think he’s been taking whatever he can get so he can fund this baby himself. And it seems to have worked, so good for him!
