As a young lad (probably too young to be watching these...), my favorites were in the order of The Last Crusade, The Temple of Doom, and then finally Raiders of the Lost Ark. I didn't rewatch Raiders until I was much older because I was dumb and it really blew me away.
So yeah, I agree with both of you that LC is the most fun.
Just a linguistic nitpick: "The cultural impact of Raiders of the Lost Ark cannot be understated." I'm pretty sure it should be either "cannot be overstated" or at least "should not be understated". In other words, even if you laud its cultural impact to the stars, it is still not an overstatement. Whereas "cannot be understated" would mean that even if you say it had no impact at all, it is not an understatement because the film's impact was non-existent. :-) Other than that, thanks for the good review of a great classic!
Great review of one of my favorite movies. I watched it recently with my 8 year old grandson who asked me why the Ark of the Covenant was so special. Having read through Exodus a short time before, I could not help but to realize how the movie visually captured the description of the Ark and the sacredness of it. Little things, like Indie and Salah won't touch it, but use the golden achacia wood poles to move it. In the final scene with Beloc opening the Ark, I saw it as the desecration it would be according to the Bible, not just because the bad guys were Nazis. I was able to explain to my grandson all of these things so he could understand just how special the Ark is and how it brought the Power of God within it.
After so many years and so many viewings, I still find such wonderful things in both Raiders and Last Crusade.
I used to think LC was my favorite but I think that was simply because I like its ideas better. Raiders is basically a perfect film.

Hek yeah. I watched Raiders with my 11 and 12 year old sons awhile back. They loved it. Last Crusade is on tap for our family summer movie club.
