Bright Young Things (2003)

Directed by Stephen Fry. Emily Mortimer and Stephen Campbell Moore.

By Samuel Morales

Bright Young Things is Stephen Fry’s adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s 1930 satirical novel, “Vile Bodies”, and stars an insanely stacked British comedic cast, including Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, David Tennant, Guy Henry, Richard E. Grant and even Peter O’Toole!

The story follows Adam, an aspiring novelist whose novel, Bright Young Things, is commissioned by the powerful head of a popular tabloid (Dan Aykroyd in a rare appearance). Adam is in love with Nina Blount, the daughter of a rich lord (O’Toole), but when his book is confiscated by customs officers for being “too racy”, he must postpone his marriage to her until he can get the money he so desperately needs, leading him into a variety of interesting comedic situations.
